Welcome to the Swiss Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Vascular Surgery. Our members are primarily physicians who specialize in cardiac surgery and practice in Switzerland. The society was founded in 1986.
The main focus of the Swiss Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Vascular Surgery is to oversee the quality of medical professional activity and safeguard the professional and economic interest of the medical profession in general and of cardiac surgeons in particular. In doing so we are committed to the ethical principles underlying medical practice and are guided by the code of professional conduct of the FMH.

Welcome to the Swiss Society for Cardiac and Thoracic Vascular Surgery (SGHC/SSCC).
It is a great honour and privilege to serve as President of our Society at a particularly meaningful moment in its history: our 40th anniversary (1986–2026).
Over four decades, the SGHC has contributed to shaping Swiss cardiac surgery through surgical innovation, scientific progress, professional education and an unwavering commitment to our patients. We stand on the shoulders of remarkable pioneers whose vision and dedication established the foundations of our specialty.
Today, together with our Board, we are committed to building on this remarkable heritage while embracing the challenges and opportunities ahead.
I am particularly grateful to my fellow Board members, Oliver Reuthebuch, Omer Dzemali, David Reineke, Enrico Ferrari, Lars Englberger, Alexander Kadner, Eva Roost and Jürg Grünenfelder, whose expertise, dedication and diverse perspectives reflect the strength of our national community. Our Young Swiss Cardiac Surgeons representatives are equally essential in connecting today's leadership with the next generation.
Our ambition is clear: to advance excellence in cardiac surgery throughout Switzerland.
This means promoting the highest standards of patient care, strengthening our Swiss Heart Surgery Registry as a foundation for measurable quality improvement, advancing education and research, supporting the next generation of cardiac surgeons, and ensuring that our profession has a strong, credible and united voice in shaping the future of Swiss healthcare.
Our newly redesigned website reflects this ambition: a Society that honours its traditions while continuously evolving, connecting people, sharing knowledge and encouraging active participation.
Above all, I believe that the strength of the SGHC lies in its members. Every generation, every institution and every individual contribution matters.
